You will be able to get a certificate for work following your surgery. You are also able to get a certificate for any appointments that you may need to attend. Please ask the nurses when you are admitted or the doctor when you are in for your appointment.
Does Barwon Health offer concession on car parking?
Barwon Health public car park concessions, such as discounted or free exit tickets, can be provided to vulnerable patients and visitors when required.
Vulnerable patients and visitors are classed as long or frequent stays, concession or pension card holders and DVA card holders.
The concession rates are $4 per visit. Although strictly restricted, free car parking to vulnerable patients or visitors can be offered, and is dependent on attendance frequency. Consumer car park concession exit tickets can be requested from any ward reception desk at University Hospital Geelong and the McKellar Centre.
If you are seeking a birth date and time, this can be provided without going through Freedom of information, on a typed Time of Birth letter. Please contact our FOI Office on 4215 1168 or email email@example.com and this can be arranged.
Photo proof of ID will be required and a charge of $10 applicable. Fee will be waived for people who hold a healthcare or pension card.
My Health Record
Barwon Health is linked with the My Health Record and electronically sends patients' discharge summaries, pathology results and medications information to those patients who have a registered My Health Record. From 1 February 2019, a My Health Record will be created for every eligible Australian who has chosen not to opt-out by the deadline of 31 January 2019.
Patients can visit www.myhealthrecord.gov.au to find out more. Patients who need extra support can call the Help line on 1800 723 471.

The length of time you are in hospital depends on the type of surgery you are having. Please ask your doctor, or refer to the information relating to specific surgery (this will be sent to you with your admission instructions).
The Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights describes the rights of patients and other people using the Australian health system. These rights are essential to make sure that, wherever and whenever care is provided, it is of high quality and is safe.
The Charter is also available in multiple languages, easy English, Auslan video and Braille.

Barwon Health is a teaching hospital. This means a student, junior doctor or nurse might watch, help with or perform your treatment under supervision. If you have any questions, please discuss them with your treating team.
How does Barwon Health protect my privacy?
Barwon Health is required by law to handle your personal and health information in accordance with The Health Records Act 2001, as well as other relevant legislation relating to confidentiality and privacy.
We routinely share your information with and make it available to any health professional involved in your ongoing care or treatment (this is known as the primary purpose). This may include health professionals outside of Barwon Health such as your GP.
Your information may also be used for secondary purposes that relate directly to the primary purpose of collection; for example, quality improvement and planning activities, billing, funding requirements, mandatory reporting or where the information is required by law.
For all other purposes, Barwon Health will seek your consent before using or disclosing your information.
If you have registered with My Health Record, Barwon Health will assume that you agree for information to be uploaded to it.
We respect your right to refuse information to be uploaded to My Health Record (e.g. discharge summary) and if you wish to withdraw your consent for this, we will ask you to fill in a ‘Providing Health Information to eHealth Record (PCEHR)’ form.

When will I know which ward I will be going to postoperatively?
We often do not know which ward you will be going to when you go into theatre. This is because we are waiting for patients to be discharged before we can make this decision. If you are having day surgery, and are being admitted through the Perioperative Service, you will be discharged through the Greta Volum Centre in Bellarine Street.
