Barwon Health provides opportunities for nursing staff to complete the clinical component of Post Graduate courses in the following specialty areas:

  • Emergency
  • Cardiac
  • Intensive Care
  • Paediatrics
  • Midwifery
  • Perioperative

Master of Nursing courses with exit points at Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma levels are offered in affiliation with the University of Melbourne, Deakin and LaTrobe universities, depending on the area of specialty.

Clinical Nurse Educators in each area are available to provide clinical support and clinical assessments to enable the nurse to achieve the requirements of their course of study. To complete the postgraduate qualification it is essential that the student successfully achieves all clinical requirements.

Postgraduate students at Barwon Health are employed to work in a part-time temporary position for 12 months (18 months for Midwifery). In addition to their employment at Barwon Health, postgraduate students must apply to the appropriate university and be accepted for enrolment in their specific course of study.

Positions for postgraduate student positions are advertised during September / October in the year prior to the planned study. Prospective students are required to apply directly to Barwon Health for a temporary employment contract as well as to the appropriate University for enrolment in the specific course. The employment contract generally starts in early February of the year of study.
